The climate of Egypt is characterized by a hot season from May to September and a cool season from November to March. Extreme temperatures during both seasons are moderated by the prevailing northern winds. Rain is not a feature in the climate of Cairo, which receives less than half an inch a year. Humidity can reach 77 percent in summer, but is very low in winter, making this the most comfortable time to travel to Cairo. The city is also subject to occasional strong hot winds, called sirocco, during April.
